'The Commonwealth Society of Nigeria held an event to commemorate the Commonwealth Day 2025 at Abuja, emphasizing the importance of dialogue and collaboration in strengthening global partnerships.' --Kaftan News Report.
The event, attended by government agencies and departments, civil society organizations, as well as business and community leaders including the Regent of Ụmụnya, His Regency Ichie Sir M.E.N. Ụbaka, KSJI, DHOU (Ezeude IX) and HM Eze Amb. Sir Leslie Onyebuchi Eke V, JP, DD, DCF, PhD, FNIPR,_ (Eze Gbakagbaka River State), had Prof Amb. May Ifeoma Nwoye, PhD, OON (former VP at the Association of Nigerian Authors and, Member, Centre for Population and Environmental Development -CPED), as keynote speaker.
Delivering the Lecture on 'PEACE, UNITY AND DEVELOPMENT IN NIGERIA,' Prof Nwoye, remarkably a Paul Harris Fellow of Rotary Int'l., Fellow of Certified National Accountants (FCNA), Fellow of Nigerian Institute of Management, President of the NGO, Intervention Council for Women in Africa and Lady Knight of Mulumba, stressed the importance of peace as requirement for the success of Nigeria.
In the interview she granted to the press, Prof Nwoye, incidentally the Dean, Faculty of Management Sciences at the prestigious Nile University of Nigeria, cited the 14th century Amalgamation of Nigeria's divergent ethnicities as the beginning of the country.
According to her Nigerian 'leaders could have ('from the onset') done something to unite' the country in a more purpose-driven, 'focused' way. She however implored all to dialogue and work towards peace so the country can achieve set objectives and, attain her goals.
She further advocated for continuous constant push for a better peaceful and mutual coexistence in spite of our fragmentations, saying that 'unity is very instrumental.' She finally submitted all-together candidly that, 'when there's no peace, there won't be progress!'
Other speakers that included Chief Obinna Nwaka (Represented the Fed Min for Youth Development) and Prince Musa Abubakar (Sec-Gen. of CSN), harped on the themes of solution for youths restiveness; economic collaboration and sustainability; due diligence in government business; fight against corruption and, promotion of Commonwealth core values as well as cooperation within the framework of member-countries.
In a separate chat with ÓMÉNÀNÀperspectives, the Regent of Ụmụnya, His Regency Ezeude IX shared his belief in the ability of the Commonwealth Society of Nigeria, CSN to achieve its mission of, 'Encourage understanding of Ethnic and cultural values within the Commonwealth ... He prayed for the society's continuation in their 'promotion of social and educational issues' in Nigeria.
The Commonwealth of Nations is an intergovernmental organization of 54 countries world over who are bonded by historical ties, shared values, commitment to Democracy, Human Rights and sustainable development.
This year's commemoration held at the National Merit House Maitama FCT, Abuja by the Commonwealth Society of Nigeria (CSN), is an annual event. The Society has been using the occasion to 'actively engage relevant stakeholders, youths representatives and traditional scholars, to propose solutions to the challenges facing the country.'
